Lifeshield established the first emergency Helipads/Helistops at numerous Hospital emergency rooms at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, West Hills Hospital, Canoga Park Hospital, Los Angeles County Hospital, Verdugo Hills Hospital, San Francisco General, Santa Barbara Golita Hospital when emergency medicine adopted Wedworth-Townsend Paramedic Act. Santa Barbara Golita Hospital after emergency rooms adopted the Wedworth-Townsend Paramedic Act. In the first year, helicopters were not allowed around emergencies because they were too dangerous with their rotor blades and tail rotors spinnning during confusion of emergencies. Verdugo Hills was used because it was highest spot in LA County to transmit line of sight at that time. Los Angeles County was first in nation to use Paramedics in early 1970's. In 1972 the Vietnam War ended and all the surplus helicopters were bought by fire departments and police departments for use when emergency services were expanded nationwide.
